Antonios Nicholas Giagkou passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026 surrounded by his family. Antonios was a hard-working father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and husband that loved his family dearly & was proud of the business he built with his wife & children. Antonios was born in Katerini Greece in 1938, one of 8 siblings and son of Hariklia and Nicholaos. During his youth and adolescence, he worked in his dad’s restaurant, enlisted in the navy, became an electrician & had many adventures traveling around the world with the merchant marines until he met & married his wife & life partner of over 5 decades, Vasiliki Loulousis Giagkou.

Antonios & Vasiliki moved to Chicago, opened their Restaurant Equipment company, and poured their hearts and energy into nurturing their business and beautiful family, that have both grown & flourished over the decades. Antonios is survived by his children, Harriet (Tom), Nick (Andrea), Fran & Helen (Bobby); grandchildren Isabella, Vasiliki, Genevieve, Julianna, Cosmo, Jack, Winter & Daisy, that adore him as well as his nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters & in laws in the USA, Greece & Australia as well as many friends. He absolutely loved teaching and sharing his wisdom with everyone that crossed his path and if you were lucky to do so, we are certain you’ve gathered a few of these nuggets yourself along the way. He had the biggest heart and would do anything for each and every one of us including his employees, customers and colleagues, many of which he considered family. He was loved by many and was affectionately called Mr. Tony.

He taught us that we can do anything we put our hearts and minds to and always expected so much of all of us because he knew our potential, even when we didn’t. Some of the nuggets of wisdom include: “no hands in your pockets, the party’s over, move your body, I’ve seen this movie before” and many others. If you were lucky enough to know him, I’m sure you have one of those words of wisdom still playing in your head as well. Like Mr. Tony always said while referring to himself “this model is discontinued”. There was definitely no one like him in this world, and we will all miss him greatly & remember him fondly. “The party’s over” May His Memory be Eternal. All arrangements entrusted to Orrico Kourelis Funeral Services Inc.
