Tom, known in his hometown of Edessa, Greece as “Maki”, Tounas suddenly passed away on Sunday evening of March 21st. He was a devoted and beloved husband to Catherine (nee Izban) for 29 years; loving and proud Baba to Efthemia and Periklis; loving stepfather to Ryan and Matthew Pohl; dearly loved son of the late Periklis and Sofia (nee Palassis) Tounas; devoted brother to Evangelos (Susan) Tounas; cherished son-in-law to Roberta Willes; adored brother-in-law to Charles (Margaret) Izban, Carolyn (Mike) Ponder, and Cynthia (Joseph) Jurewicz; and loving uncle to Sophia Tounas, Andrew Izban, Joshua Jurewicz, Sarah Jurewicz, Greyson Ponder, and Julia Jurewicz. Tom was born in Edessa, Greece and moved his life to Chicago, Illinois in 1975. He quickly became a successful restauranteer of The Pit Rib House and established a beautiful life with his devoted wife “Cath.” Even though his foundation and family resided in Lemont, Illinois, he never forgot his roots in Greece which he travelled to yearly. Tom is a loving friend whose connections in Edessa were never forgotten. His love and passion for living life and developing friendships with everyone made him the genuine man he was.
