Visitation for Mr. Thiakos will take place Sunday April 4th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Kurtz Memorial Chapel of New Lenox, 102 East Francis Road New Lenox Illinois 60451. Trisagion Service t 6:00 PM. Friends and family are asked to meet 9:45 AM Monday morning April 5th, directly at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 North Broadway Street Joliet Illinois 60435, for the 10:00 AM Funeral Service. Pete will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery of Joliet.

Pete Thiakos, 71 of New Lenox and born of Alexandro, Lefkada Greece, passed away Wednesday late evening March 31st peacefully at his home with his loving wife and family at his side. Beloved husband of Angela (nee Manolitsis) for over 51 ,years. Loving father of Maria (Tom) Wheeler and Sophia (Greg) Giesking. Proud and devoted pappou of Michael and Emily Wheeler. Dearest son of the late Dimitrios and Maria Thiakos. Dear brother of Tasoula (the late Socrates) Zavitsanos, the late Vasiliki Manolitsis, the late Nick (Sophia) Thiakos, and the late Eleni Thiakos. Brother-in-law of Theodosis (Ifigenia) Manolitsis. Fond theio of many nieces and nephews both here in the United States as well as Greece.  At the age of 16, Pete traveled by boat to the United States arriving to Chicago in 1966 where he began work at a local Greek owned restaurant. That was the start of Pete’s 53-year career in the restaurant industry. Pete owned a restaurant for several decades before going to work at Saint Joseph Medical Center Cafeteria, where his cooking was loved by many. Although Pete worked hard to build a life for his wife, Angela, and their two daughters in the United States, his love for his home country of Greece remained strong. His boisterous personality, sharp sense of humor and fierce work ethic will be remembered by all those who knew him. May His Memory Be Eternal.
