Nick Verras, age 61 passed away peacefully on Dec. 12, 2022 with his family by his side. Nick was born on Mar. 22, 1961 in Krnov, Czech Republic, where he spent most of his childhood. Nick was a beloved and devoted husband of Maria Verras for 24 years. Loving father of Nicoletta Verras. Cherished friend to many. Nick loved to spend time with family, work in his beautiful garden in the summer and learn about history from all around the world. He loved to collect all types of coins and rare artifacts.
Nick came to the United States at the age of 17 and worked as a server in Greek town Chicago. From working at former restaurant “Roditis” to running “ Greek town Gyros” back in the late 80’s, he was known and loved by many people. Years later, he owned and ran a successful trucking company in Chicago’s south suburban area. His sincere care and love to everyone was unmatched. 20 years ago, Nick was given another chance with a new heart after receiving a transplant and has lived a full, happy life surrounded by his beloved.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m at Elmwood Cemetery chapel, 2905 Thatcher Ave, River Grove, IL 60171, where Nick will rest. He will truly be missed by the many lives he touched.
