John Stefanos 74 of Orland Park formerly of Chicago, passed away late morning, Saturday September 26th. Devoted and beloved husband of Elaine (nee Danos) for over 46 years. Cherished son of the late Polyhronis and Pauline Stefanos. Loving brother of Amelia (Dean) Sallas and Chris P.(the late Irene) Stefanos. Dearest brother-in-law of Dean (Penny) Danos, Peter (Megan) Danos and Julie (Jim) Calderone. Fun loving and best Uncle to many nieces and nephews and Nouno of Christina, Bessie, Chris, Peter, Gina, Michael, and Tristan. Best friend and loving companion to his buddies, Taffy, Roxanne, Maddie, and Bugg.
John was the proud owner and master candy-maker of Cupid Candies. His journey began nearly 60 years ago when he first worked as a soda jerk. John would eventually take over the business when his father passed away. He was instrumental in developing sugar-free chocolates for Cupid’s. He always took great pride in his craft and his unique creations. Cupid’s of Chicago soon grew into a Southside favorite. The Cupid caramel apple, mint melt-a-ways, turks, and ice cream bars became favorites of the young and old alike. John’s legacy of Cupid’s will be remembered in Chicago for it’s fine chocolates.
Thirty-two days ago, John fell and seriously hit his head on the cement. The fall resulted in three brain bleeds. His journey from that point has been up and down. We treasure the days he talked and was lucid enough to know we were there. The 26th of September marked the end of his journey. He fought hard and we know this is not how he wanted to leave, but God saw him and wrapped his arms around him and said “Son I am taking you home! A beautiful place where there is no more suffering and you have lots of family and friends waiting to welcome you! Come my Son, hold my hand and I will take you to a better place!” John has left us with a broken heart 💔 and many memories that we will cherish until the day we join him! God thank you for blessing us with John! Heaven needed the best chocolatier 🍫 and boy did they get one!!! Jokes and laughter free of charge!!!! There will never be another like Uncle john … He was the a real life Willie Wonka that brought so much happiness and joy to all of his nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and everyone that knew him over the decades. He is running and walking and telling his jokes in Heaven. May you rest easy in Paradise and May your memory be Eternal. You will never be forgotten…
John
