Gus Pappas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11th 2023 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of the late Panagiota “Nota” nee Iliopoulos. Loving father of Peter, Georgina, Debra (John) Maniatis and beloved grandfather to Chase Maniatis. He was born on December 24,1938 in Louka, Tripolis Greece. He was the oldest of five boys, Nick (Nota), Charlie (Maria), Ted (the late Maria), and George. Gus, along with his father Peter, arrived in the United States at the age of 13 in 1951. He started his new life in the state of Michigan and moved to Chicago when he was 18. He worked as a delivery driver for a few years and in 1962, after chasing her until she finally said yes, he married Panagiota “Nota” Iliopoulos. He started his own business, a fruit and vegetable market on State Street in Chicago to provide for his wife and three children. He worked hard and in 1986 he opened up a restaurant with his brother-in- law Nick Allen in Michigan City, Indiana. Gus was a big Indiana Colts fan, loved Greek music, his coffee, and his grandson Chase Maniatis. He was a quiet, soft spoken man who enjoyed going out for coffee with his friends, but his greatest joy was his children and grandson. May His Memory be Eternal!
