Peter Hondros October 13, 1927 – July 16, 2022
Services will take place on Thursday, July 21 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (10301 Kolmar Avenue Oak Lawn, IL, 60453). Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Funeral service will begin promptly at 10:00 A.M. after visitation. Peter will be laid to rest at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
Peter (Panayiotis) Hondros, age 94, entered into eternal rest peacefully on July 16, 2022. He was born on October 13, 1927 in Skala, Messinia, Greece to the late Ioannis and Chrisoula. He was predeceased by his siblings Vasiliki, Aspasia, Christos, Apostoli, and Nikki. Peter worked as a farmer in Greece and would harvest olive trees. He met the love of his life, Fani, and the two were married in 1960. The couple emigrated to the USA in 1966 and settled in Massachusetts where he took on the occupation of a painter.
After Peter and Fani retired in the 1990s, they moved to Illinois. During his retirement years, Peter enjoyed a multitude of hobbies which included working in his garden, reading, cooking, watching classic television shows and movies, and, above all, spending quality time with his family.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Fani, of 62 years; his loving daughters, Christine (Fotis) Skiadopoulos, Eleni (the late Christopher) Kitsch, and Pauline Gikas; his beloved grandchildren, Evdokia (Paul), Leonidas (Denise), Kristen, Peter, Evangelos, and Priscilla; and his precious great-granddaughter, Maria. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends across Greece, America, and Canada. Peter will also be missed dearly by his loyal “great granddog,” Daisy.
