Marina Vassos, 58, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2022, after a brave and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by loving family who held her hands as she exhaled to leave for her next journey. Marina, of Greek descent, was born in Chicago on April 21, 1964, to Ida (nee Gatzionis) and Gregory Vassos of Palos Hills. A graduate of Elmhurst College, she had a successful career in beauty and fashion having worked at Neiman Marcus, and Lancôme, including its European locations in the United Kingdom and France as a trainer and marketing director. Professionally, she helped women feel confident and develop their own sense of self and style while creating opportunities for them to advance. Personally, Marina put everyone before herself, and always saw the best in people. She was a life-long learner and explorer, and a lover of art, culture, travel, and adventure. Marina will always be remembered for her beauty, style, charm, grace, and selflessness. She is survived by parents, Ida and Gregory; brothers Evan and Tony (Cheryl); Tony and Cheryl’s daughter, Danielle, Marina’s niece and goddaughter whom she loved dearly; uncle and godfather Harry (Xanthi) Gatzionis; uncles Gregory (Helen) and John (Theodora) Gatzionis; many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; and, her former husband. Marina is preceded in death by her grandparents Marina and Nikos Gatzionis, and Evangelos and Vasiliki Vassos. Marina and her family are grateful to all the family, friends, and caregivers, who joined her in her final days. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made in Marina’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a charity which Marina supported, or to The Father Byron Koraes Scholarship Fund, benefiting Marina’s grammar school.
