John D. Arvanetes February 15, 1934 – June 6, 2020

In light of the current health situation, the services for Mr. Arvanetes will take place all in one day as a semi private service. The visitation will take place 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday June 10th at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church 11025 South Roberts Road Palos Hills. WITH THE HELP OF THE CHURCH PARISH COUNCIL ONLY 100 PEOPLE WITH MASKS ON WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CHURCH AT ONE TIME IN ACCORDANCE WITH CDC GUIDELINES OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS AND THE GREEK ORTHODOX METROPOLIS OF CHICAGO.

THE FUNERAL WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY AT 11:00 AM AND WILL BE RESERVED FOR FAMILY ONLY. Mr. Arvanetes will be laid to rest at Bethania Cemetery in Justice Illinois. The Arvanetes family would like to thank you for understanding and greatly appreciate your prayers and gestures of sympathy during this difficult time. Most importantly they wish for you and your loved ones to be safe. Mr. Arvanetes asked that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Father Byron Koraes student assistance fund.

John D. Arvanetes 86 of Tinley Park, and born in Thoknia, Arcadia Greece passed away suddenly Saturday, June 6, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved and cherished husband of Barbara (nee Giannakopoulos) for over 46 years. Loving father of Demetrios Arvanetes, Harry (Pamela) Arvanetes, and Amalia (Peter) Berchos. Proud pappou of Brina, Mia, Johnny, Athan, Maxine, Katerina, Leo, and Damian. Devoted son of the late Demetrios and Amalia. Dear brother of the late Ioanna (the late Theofilos) Stavrianos, Vasiliki (the late Triantafilos) Kotsogiannis, the late Ifigenia (the late John) Sgouros, the late Katina Arvanetes, and Nicki (Nicholas) Papanikolaou. John proudly served his country in the U.S, Army during the 1950’s while stationed in Germany. He was an amazing Nouno and his nieces and nephews were proud to call him Theo Yanni. John dedicated his life and his free time to many organizations. He held the Presidency of the A.H.E.P.A. Woodlawn Chapter #93, the Megalopoli Society and The Parish Council of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. He had many hobbies including cooking, golfing, fishing, and playing cards with friends. One of his favorite things to do was to watch his eight grandchildren compete in all of their different sports and activities. He was devoted to his faith, his wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him Pappouli! May His Memory be Eternal!  The visitation will take place 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday June 10th at Sts.
