Athanassia Vlahos, 88, of Palos Hills, IL passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Athanassia (nee Deligiannis) was born in Kandyla, Greece and journeyed to Halifax, Canada, eventually making her way over to Chicago with her brothers and becoming an American citizen. She spent time in Toronto as an au par, followed by a seamstress, and certified keypunch specialist in the Chicagoland area. She married her husband Spyros Vlahos in 1964, only weeks after meeting him. She was a devoted wife for 62 years and shared a lifetime of love, memories, and a dedication to her family. Athanassia was the caring mother of George (Beth) Vlahos and Koula (Brian) Berlin, and she found her greatest joy in her role as a loving grandmother to Elizabeth Berlin, Bennett Berlin, Sophia Vlahos, Spiros Vlahos, and Patrick Vlahos. As a devoted mother, she emphasized the ability to play musical instruments, sports, literacy in Greek language, culture and spiritual education at St. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Later, she became a devoted grandmother and spent many years watching, cooking for, and loving her grandchildren. Yiayia was an amazing cook famously known for her Galaktoboureko, a delicious Greek dessert.
Athanassia was preceded in death by her four siblings: Peter (Amelia) Deligianis, Gus (Georgia) Deligiannis, Christos (Sophia) Deligiannis, and Eleni Deligianis. Her legacy of kindness and devotion to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her Memory be Eternal! All arrangements entrusted to Orrico Kourelis Funeral Services Inc.
