Anthony “Nini” Coco, passed away on June 23, 2025 at the Beverly Park Place Nursing Home in Knoxville, Tennessee. Everyone called him Nini. He was born in Chicago on February 2, 1938 , the son of Louis and Marina ”Mamie” (Caruso) Coco. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 – 1955. Nini and his wife Marie (Scapellato) Coco of 67 yea rs raised their family in Hickory Hills, Illinois. He was a member of the Local 2 of the Chicago Mailers Union . Most weeks he worked seven days, five at the Chicago Tribune , two at the Chicago Sun Times . Later, he worked at the Chicago Transit Authority , holding various jobs before retiring in 1998. Working so many hours to support his family did not leave Nini much time for outside activities. His great passion outside of work was his garden and fruit trees. Nini managed to fit 13 fruit trees on a quarter acre lot and have an enormous garden full of various vegetables. Nini’s retirement perfectly dovetailed into him becoming a grandpa. “Papa Nini” enjoyed his time with his 8 grandchildren . Papa and Grandma Marie babysat many times. Grandma Marie claims that Papa never changed a diaper until he had grandchildren. Nini also enjoyed traveling during his retirement. His family includes his wife of 67 years, Marie Coco; children Louis Salvatore (Julia) and Anthony Vittorio (Phyllis); grandchildren Anna, Teresa, Rachel, Maria, Joseph, Michael, Paul, and John, and a sister Frances Piccione. Nini’s parents, Louis and Marina “Mamie” Coco, and his siblings Agnes Esposito and Lois Skoronski preceded him in death .
