James Francis Lawler passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, just shy of his 88th birthday. Born on June 26, 1938, Jim lived a life centered on his family.

Jim was the beloved husband of Jean Alice Lawler and a proud father to his four children. Whether it was a holiday gathering or simply spending time together around his kitchen table, Jim was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was affectionately known as Papa Lawler, a title he wore with pride. The love he had for his family was returned many times over, and the memories he created with them will be treasured for generations.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. He carried the values of service, dedication, and perseverance with him throughout his life and led by example through his quiet strength and loyalty.

Jim, a lover of golf, enjoyed the challenge of the game as much as the friendships and camaraderie it brought. He cherished time spent on the course with his golfing buddies, sharing laughs, stories, and friendly competition that often continued long after the final putt. He was also a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan, and few things made him happier than seeing his White Sox win the 2005 World Series.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his children, Judy (Mark), Jim (Kathie), Colleen (George), and John (Amy); his sister, Sheila (Babe); his brother, Pat (Carol); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many family members and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Luella Lawler, and his younger brother, Ray.

Jim’s family will remember him for his steadfast love, his loyalty and the example he set through a life well lived. Though he will be deeply missed, the stories and memories he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. All arrangements entrusted to Orrico Kourelis Funeral Services Inc.
