With deep love, the Balaskas family announces the passing of Nikolaos Balaskas, 76, of Monee, IL. He passed peacefully at his home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Born and raised in Achladokambos, Argolidos, Greece, he immigrated to Chicago in 1972, where he became a successful restaurateur, proudly owning and operating the L & G Family Restaurants on the South Side of Chicago for 43 years.

He was a man defined by strength, humility, and patience, never one to complain no matter what the circumstances. Down to earth and filled with quiet wisdom, he was known for offering practical advice, firm handshakes, and steady guidance. He especially loved time spent on his farm, where he could be found tinkering with tools, tending to his animals, and enjoying his retirement. Through his love of history and storytelling, he brought conversations to life in a way that will never be the same. He never turned away anyone in need and was deeply loved by all who knew him. The countless lives he touched and influenced spanned generations. He made a lasting impact on every person who walked through the doors of L & G.

His wife and family was everything to him. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply, dedicating his life to building a legacy that will live on for generations.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lambrini (nee Psihogios), his children, Konstandinos (Nicole), Giannoula (Chris), and George (Elizabeth), and his beloved grandchildren: Niko, Zoie, Gianni, Taya, Lambrini, Anastasia, Daphne, Lambrini, and Nikolaos.

It was a true honor and privilege to know and love him as a devoted husband, an amazing father, a beloved Pappou, a brother, and a friend to many. May His Memory Be Eternal! All arrangements entrusted to Orrico Kourelis Funeral Services Inc.
