Dorothy Francis Kozak (nee Higgins) 86 of Hickory Hills, formerly of Beverly, passed away peacefully Thursday evening May 21st at home with her loving family by her side. Beloved and devoted wife of the late James for over 60 years. Loving mom of Linda (Chris) Casey, Michael (Julie) Kozak, the late Susan Kozak, Stephen Kozak, Patricia (Ronnie) Wheeler, and Jimmy (Kristen) Kozak. Cherished grandma of Sandy (Nick) Russo, Michelle Casey, C.J. Casey, Kelsey Kozak, Shane Kozak, Adam Kozak, Nikki (Grant) Gadaway, Lily Kozak, Andy Kozak, Cassidy Wheeler, Sadie Wheeler, and Landon Kozak. Great grandma of Christopher, Addison, Victoria, and Gabrielle. Dearest daughter of the late Monroe and Maxine Higgins and sister of Karen (Larry) Scanlon, the late Monroe “Boat”  Jr.(Katy) Higgins, Preston “Jimmy” (Carol) Higgins, and the Late Richard Higgins. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Dorothy devoted her life to her children and husband and epitomized everything that a mother is. She loved her time with family and friends and in-between her Bridge Club nights she spent her mornings with her bowling league, together they made up her second family. It’s a wonder with all that going on she managed time to complete the taxes for so many friends and family, and of course nothing could stop her from her trips to the casino! She graduated high school from Longwood Academy and then worked as a travel agent in Chicago for a few years which led her around the world, until mutual neighborhood friends set her up on a blind date.  This was the beginning of a 60 year relationship with her loving husband Jim. She settled down and took a position in her family business as a secretary at Preston A. Higgins & Co where she later became a shareholder and a corporate officer. Along the way she worked for 30 years as a tax preparer for The H & R Block Company. She took classes to get her tax preparer certification and Treasury Card which incidentally qualified her to represent clients at their tax audits. Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Services for Mrs. Kozak will take place all in one day as a private service and she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband James along with the brave men and women who gave their lives for our great nation at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood Illinois.
